If you're like most adults, you DIDN'T learn about money when you were young. Chances are, no one taught you how to manage your money or save and investing when you were young. It wasn't a required subject in school and many parents have no idea how to teach their children about money at home.

Most adults agree that children should be taught about money and investing in school yet financial education is still only mandatory in 13 states in the US. Kids are NOT getting the tools they need to succeed financially.

Unfortunately, many parents are struggling financially themselves and don't know how to teach their kids about money because they don't know about it either. When I asked my mom why she didn't teach me about money, she replied, "How could I teach you something I don't know?"

It's been said that less than 10% of all high school graduates learn about money in school and even less learn about money at home. And even though it's been said that most economic teachers in high school work it into their curriculum in some way, they aren't teaching kids what they really need to know.

They may teach kids how to write a check (yes, that's useful), how to create a budget (great, but then what?), and maybe how money travels around the world (interesting, but not particularly useful).

TEACHERS often don't understand how money works either so they may not be the best choice teach YOUR kids how to save, how to invest in assets that produce passive income, or introduce the powerful Three Pillars of Wealth: business, real estate and stocks.

Financial literacy has been lumped into the 'elective' category but it should be one of the primary life skills we teach kids and teens in school and at home. Learning about money, both personal money management skills and business money management skills are some of the most valuable lessons your children can learn.

Kids are taught to memorize facts and figures that generally make no difference in their ultimate success in life. The big question is... It's time that we put kids and money in the same room so they learn how it works BEFORE they move out and have to learn the hard way.

Remember, becoming financially free is not about having lots of money. It's about creating the financial resources you want and need to live the lifestyle that provides enjoyment, purpose and passion for YOU!

Teaching kids about money, giving kids allowances, inspiring them to start businesses and instilling the thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and habits of wealthy people must start when they are young. This is when they are forming their views of the world and are learning what is normal and natural from those around them (parents, teachers, media). It is your number one job if you are a parent, to make sure your kids learn how to manage and invest money wisely so they will be successful when they move out (i.e., they don't have to move back in!)
