Press Release - Oct. 1, 2010
Critical Financial Education Class Rarely Taught In School
Santa Barbara, CA - For whatever reason, financial education has yet to become mandatory in most schools and what IS taught rarely prepares our kids to both manage their money and grow it for later.
To make matters worse, most financial education programs are boring which means students don't remember much. Camp Millionaire solves both of these issues…not only do kids remember the financial lessons they MUST have to be financially responsible, but they have a great time doing it.
Santa Barbara’s popular five-day summer camp morphs into a two-day funfest Nov. 6-7th to teach kids about money. “The weekend Camp Millionaire is in response to parents who want their kids to learn about saving and investing without the hassle of a week-long commitment,” says Elisabeth Donati, creator of Camp Millionaire.
“The two-day program is designed to get the information in quickly, and in a way that makes the information stick! We use our proprietary financial game, The Money Game®, to make sure kids remember the information long after the weekend is over. Kids leave our programs with the kind of knowledge that will create good financial habits,” Donati explains. Three of the 26 principles the kids learn in Camp Millionaire are:
• Pay Yourself First
• Put Your Money To Work For You
• Only Borrow Money When It's Going to Make You Money
“Though most adults agree that financial literacy should be a mandatory subject in school, it will still be years before it reaches every classroom. We can’t afford to wait!” says Donati. “To turn this economy around, we have to make sure our children get a solid financial education before they leave home without the safety of mom and dad to pick up the pieces." says Donati. “We must take the long-term approach and invest in our children's future now.”
The Nov. 6-7, 2010 Camp Millionaire will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Building at 112 West Cabrillo. Pre-registration is required. If two or more kids from the same school attend, Camp Millionaire will give back a portion of the registration fee to their PTSA.
Elisabeth Donati is available for interviews and can be reached at 805-957-1024. For more information, please visit www.CampMillionaire.com.
